Water of Leith Half Marathon

Date: 26 September 2026
Location: Balerno to Leith, Edinburgh
Event Type: Trail & Mixed Terrain Half Marathon
Distances: Half Marathon (13.1 miles / 21.1km)

The Water of Leith Half Marathon returns for 2026, offering one of Edinburgh’s most scenic and distinctive half marathon experiences. Organised by Blast Running, this point-to-point race follows the picturesque Water of Leith Walkway from the edge of the Pentland Hills to the historic waterfront at Leith, showcasing the capital from a completely different perspective.

About the Event

Now in its long-established history, the Water of Leith Half is deliberately kept small, with an entry limit of around 200 runners, helping to preserve the tranquillity of the route while creating a friendly and supportive atmosphere.

The course begins just outside Balerno before following the Water of Leith downstream through woodland, parkland and riverside paths, eventually finishing at Coalhill in Leith. Along the way, runners pass through some of Edinburgh’s hidden green spaces, making it one of the city’s most picturesque races. The route is mostly off-road and fully marshalled at key road crossings, although roads remain open to traffic where the path intersects.

As in previous years, fundraising from the event supports the Water of Leith Conservation Trust, helping to protect and maintain this important urban wildlife corridor for future generations.
