The Essar Chester Half Marathon is one of the UK’s longest established and most highly regarded half marathon road races. Set in the historic Roman and medieval city of Chester, the event features a predominantly flat course on closed roads that’s ideal for personal bests, charity fundraising and community running. It also forms part of the Chester Triple series alongside the MBNA Chester 10K and the Chester Marathon/Metric Marathon.

Race Description

Runners begin at Chester Racecourse, head through the city’s historic streets and out into the surrounding rural road sections before returning for a memorable finish beside the iconic Chester Town Hall and Cathedral. The route is predominantly flat—with gentle undulations—and offers a mix of urban landmarks and countryside running, supported by enthusiastic spectators and on-course aid stations.
